Default kotor l vs kotor ll

When it comes to Star Wars games, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic is, without a doubt, my favorite of all time. One discussion that I commonly get into is the kotor l vs kotor ll discussion. Personally I like the first game way better; it has a much more interesting story line, better missions, better locations, and never gets monotonous. KOTOR ll is a fun game, don't get me wrong, but I've found certain missions to get very monotonous, certain locations to be rather boring, and sometimes you will find yourself wandering around with no idea what to do. Between the 2, I just think that KOTOR I is the better game.
Thoughts?

There is no contest, KotOR II blows KotOR I out of the water and then proceeds to turn the remaining bits into orts. Not only was the plot deeper, it was not the bog-standard "you are the chosen of the force - go forth and save/destroy the world and, by the way, you've got to take out evil person X too." The companions were well done so that is a toss-up, although I would have to say that one of your "followers" is actually one of the deepest characters I've ever met in any RPG. Locations were also better handled in KotOR II, as were the missions.

Default K0T0R ll

K0T0R ll had far better character development, both the one you build and the playable followers. Their physical abilities, the number of ways you can influence them, and backgrounds. The cat-and-mouse plot of the game also does a game of this genre far more than the search and destroy focus of the first game. Say what you will and you are entitled to opinions, but if you think that the second game was boring....How did you complete the first? The second game is much more vibrant, provides far more freedom, and takes up much more time. As it should have.

At the risk of sounding wishy-washy, I like BOTH of them for different reasons. I don't really think either of them is vastly superior to the other. I'll explain:

KOTOR I: In terms of storyline, this game takes the cake! KOTOR2 cannot even hold a candle to this game's well thought out plotline. I mean I honestly did not see the MAJOR twist coming until it was sprung on me! I had NO idea that for half of the game I was actually playing as the dark and mysterious Darth Revan until the game revealed it! That, in my opinion, is a "Luke, I am your father" kind of revelation, and it made the game feel less like a video game and more like a Star Wars movie! That said, I also liked the characters more in this game than in the second one. I'll take Carth over Atton (who immensely gets on my nerves) any day, and Handmaiden and Visas can't hold a candle to Bastila and Jolee. Canderous is also vastly more interesting than Mandalore (though of they are technically one in the same). Last but not least, I like the interaction between Zaalbar and Mission. They add a good dose of humor to the game, which is another indispensable element of Star Wars.

KOTORII: Well, there is no way that the first KOTOR can even come close to compete with the sequel when it comes to creating powerful characters. There are MORE Force abilities, MORE time to train your character as a Jedi, and of course the wonderful prestige class. Therefore, in terms of combat techniques, this game is unbeatable. I also thoroughly enjoy the character of Kreia/Trayus. I find her very intriguing, though there are times I would just like to bash her head in because she can be so darn annoying! Of course, another plus to this game is that you can train many of your companions to be Jedi throughout the course of the game. I also like how your character's features deteriorate as you go further down the dark path, though I think it can be a bit dramatic!

Therefore, BOTH of these games are winners in my book. I can't choose one over the other. I just wish KOTOR III would come out already!

Completely and utterly incorrect. While KotOR I had a bog-standard plot with a predictable "twist" KotOR II actually tried, and succeeded, to turn Star Wars on-end and make players re-think the flawed concepts of "light" and "dark." As for your other points... Well, I guess I will just say that I disagree with most, if not all, of them.

Obviously, we disagree, Arandie, and that is fine. We're two different people with different opinions. It happens. I still adamantly disagree with you about which game has the better storyline. For me, KOTORII seems to drag in some places and Nihilus is a bit boring . . . He's got all this power but totally no personality.

Perhaps this is why we disagree. I do not believe that the concepts the Jedi have of Light and Dark are flawed in any way. For example, I do not believe that it is okay for a Jedi to use the dark side if he believes it is for a worthy cause. Dark is still dark. Light is still light. Many Jedi have dipped into the Dark Side, believing that they are immune to its tug only to warped into something truly hideous later on. Take Jacen Solo for example. He believed that it was all right for him to embrace the Dark Side as long as it brought peace to the galaxy. He believed that the ends always justified the means. He was even willing to kill his own aunt as long as he had good intentions in mind. In the end, his good intentions meant nothing. He did not conquer the Dark Side, but it conquered him.

It sounds to me like your are supporting the Potentium Theory, which has been labeled a heresy by the Jedi Council after multitudes of Jedi who embraced the idea of no dark side ended up going dark. Therefore, I guess Kreia's assertions in KOTORII that the dark side doesn't really exist just seems erroneous and misleading. I believe she is mistaken in her concept of the Force, which ultimately leads to her own destruction.

Look, I love KOTORII, don't get me wrong. Story-wise, I just prefer the first one.

Galen Marek, my sentiments exactly! I honestly don't think I could have phrased that better myself

Thank you very much, RickiLeia. I'll also have you know that I completely agreed with EVERYTHING you said in your initial post. You know what they say. Great minds think alike!
