There hasn't been a known living member of the true Sith race since around 4,400 BBY (with the exception of the Kalgrath the Night Beast who had survived in hibernation.

as the sith knowledge increased in the force they went off world to see what else they could learn, im also guessing while they were off their home planet, they recruited other force users, and over a period of time the sith were merely "dark" jedi, not just one race.

I seem to remember that they bred with Dark Jedi which A. killed the pure line and B. caused the Dark Jedi to call themselves Sith.
