Star Wars: The Dark Side of Light By: Tucker Sparks AKA Ferren Ezhno Disclaimer: I do not own star wars or any planets that are used in this fan fiction. Star wars is owned by the great mind of George Lucas. However, I own various characters and situations. If it sounds familiar, it probably isn’t mine. 1 The Galactic Civil war has ended. The universe is now in a time of peace. The new and improved Jedi academy is now up and running, masters and students alike walk the hallways in this time of peace. Many species of aliens are among the Jedi that walk these halls. Through the crowds a male mid aged Jedi walks through trying to push through the crowded academy hallways. He has long black hair and bright blue eyes. Although he looks human, is of a different species that he has never told anyone before. Fallowed closely behind him is his apprentice, a sixteen year old human that wields a lightsaber like the late. He is five foot seven inches. He has shaggy light brown hair, and is a bit big for his age and height, but his size doesn’t make him less versatile than the rest of the Jedi. This padawan is trained differently than the rest of the soon to be Jedi in the academy. This padawan is not shoved into classrooms where many students are taught at once. This very special padawan is trained hands on. He gets put into the care of a Jedi Master at a very young age. The master trains him in the ways of the Jedi through out this student’s life time. This training continues until the Jedi council decides that the padawan is ready to be a Jedi Knight. “Master Kyros,” The young apprentice yells through the crowds pushing through trying to keep up with his master. The master stops for a moment and turns. “Hurry up, Padawan.” He tells the young Jedi. He then turns his back again, and begins to walk in the same direction. The apprentice fallows the best he can as he weaves in and out of the crowd. As the crowd dies down it becomes easier for the padawan to fallow his master. “Keep up,” Kyros said not even bothering to turn around. He keeps walking turns a corner. The padawan must keep up so he picks up the pace a little, moving at a light jog. He turns the corner and accidentally bumps into a passing Jedi student. Both the padawan and the passing bystander fall down. The padawan immediately gets to his feet to help the student up. He grabs the student by the arm and lifts the student up. As the padawan helps the student up they meet face to face. The padawan is now staring into two beautiful female eyes. The eyes are brown with gold circles around her pupils. They back away form each other where the padawan sees she has long black hair with vertical blonde streaks in it. The girl Jedi smiles at the padawan and the padawan returns a nervous love at first sight smile. She brushes back her hair leaving just a strip of her hair dangling on the right side of her face. The padawan’s jaw drops at the sight of this girl’s beauty. She looked down at the ground at a bag and a few books that had fallen during the collision. She bent down to grab the books snapping the padawan back into reality. The padawan bent down to help, realizing that he was the reason why the books had falling. “Thanks,” The girl said smiling standing back up after retrieving all of her things, “My name is Car-re, what is yours?” “Ummm…..Fe……hoo…,” the padawan said still dumbfounded by the girls beauty. The girl giggled at the fact that this padawan was stricken with love at first sight. She felt a little of it too. “Ummfehoo,” She giggled at the response, “Nice name.” “No, no,” the padawan said recovering from the sickness of seeing this girl, “My name is…” “Ferren,” Kyros yelled from down the hall, “I told you to hurry.” “Ferren,” the padawan retold, “That is my name….Ferren. Ferren Ezhno.” “Very nice to meet you, Ferren Ezhno,” Car-re said smiling, walking past Ferren in the direction she was headed, “Maybe I will see you around?” She threw a flirtatious smile at Ferren. “Maybe,” Ferren said returning the same flirty smile. She turned walking down the hallway while Ferren still stared in awe at the beautiful girl that he had just met. “Ferren!” Kyros shouted again, “We have to get to the council chambers so we can get our next assignment.” “Coming, Master,” Ferren said making himself look away from Car-re so he could comply with the order that his master had given him. He saw Master Kyros farther down the hallway and ran to get to him. “Stop daydreaming and please let’s get to the council chambers. Remember the last time you made us late for a mission briefing?” Kyros asked knowing the answer was going to be yes. “How could anyone forget that mess,” Ferren reassured Kyros, “But you know that it wasn’t my fault. I told you that it was that stupid Trandoshian Krest what’s his name. I told you he was trouble, but no, nobody listens to Ferren.” “Alright,” Kyros interrupted laughing not wanting to hear anymore of Ferren’s wild story, “Let’s just go get our mission alright?” “Sounds fine by me,” Ferren agreed. 2 They arrived at the council chamber doors shortly after Ferren’s run in with the gorgeous Car-re. Ferren couldn’t stop thinking about her the entire walk to the council. Thoughts of marriage and children had already popped into his mind, but he knew they could never come true. But it didn’t hurt thinking, right? “You remember how rule fallowing the council is, so what ever you say,” Kyros said stopping and thinking for a moment, “better yet, don’t say anything.” “Master we go through this every time we come here. And every time we go through this you tell me keep my posture good, or don’t say anything. Have I ever spoken when you told me not too?” Ferren asked. “Every time,” Kyros said smiling at Ferren, “And I don’t plan on you following my rules this time either. So why do I bother?” “Good point,” Ferren responded laughing. Kyros opened the council doors and walked in, fallowed closely by Ferren. Ferren still had Car-re on his mind, and hopefully the council couldn’t read minds. Ferren chuckled at the idea of someone being able to read minds. The two Jedi walked into the room and they were immediately met by fifteen council Jedis. Most were of different species, not like Ferren had cared. He wasn’t alien hating unlike his brother, Tynan. “May we ask you to wait outside padawan, we would like to speak to Master Kyros alone for a moment,” one of the human councils said. “Of coarse, Master,” Ferren complied bowing his head and walking out the way he had came in. After leaving the council chambers, the doors were immediately shut behind him. Making a noise so powerful it echoed down the long hallways. Ferren leaned against a pillar that was outside and pulled out his lightsaber. He ignited the blade that glowed blue and twirled it around him, showing off to no one around him. A young Ithorian walked out of a hallway and walked toward Ferren making Ferren retreat the light back to the hilt of the saber. He was wearing a loose fit brown Jedi robe that swayed from side to side as he walked. As he came closer to Ferren, Ferren hesitated to greet the alien, afraid he would offend the Ithorian by speaking galactic basic. “[Greetings young padawan],” The alien said in Huttsise, the only language other than galactic basic that Ferren knew, “[Would you mind helping with a problem?]” “[I am waiting for my master to return from the council chambers],” Ferren returned it Huttsise looking at the council room doors and knowing it was going to be a while for Kyros to come back out, “[But I can spare some time].” “[Great],” The Ithorian said throwing his hands in the air, “[I need you to go get me a lightsaber crystal from the storage room. I am new here and I am supposed to construct my saber, but I have no clue where the storage room is].” Ferren knew that it was against the rules to help another student with his lessons, but Ferren was a nice guy and decided to help the newbie out. “[Alright],” Ferren agreed, “[Stay here and if someone comes out of that room, and asks for Ferren Ezhno, say I needed to use the little boys room].” Ferren wanted to hurry back and ran to the storage room that was only a few doors down a hall way that was to the right of the council chamber. He entered his access code, “23076” into the computer that stood outside the room and the door opened. He entered the room and saw the security droid with a blaster rifle. If that thing knew I was taking things, he would shoot me down in an instant Ferren thought I need to go re-wire that thing. Ferren walked over to the droid and opened up the control panel that was housed on its back. The droid didn’t react, which was weird because if someone was coming in here to re-wire it, than it should react and fire at the person. So much for security thought Ferren. Ferren took out a small knife and cut some of the wires, shutting down the droid. He then re-wired a few wires and pressed a re-set button that activated the droid again. It was a good thing that Kyros had taught Ferren slicing skills. It pays off to have a Jedi Master that was once a smuggler. Ferren then walked over to the crystal chamber the one house in the back of the room and the automatic door opened for him. He then walked in and grabbed a blue color crystal out of a drawer that was marked, “Blue Color Crystals”. Ferren looked around the drawers at what was there, he was here already, why not take a few for him. He noticed a drawer marked “Red Color Crystals”. Why would a Jedi Academy have a Sith color of crystal. He grabbed a red one and a yellow one. Maybe he could some how make his lightsaber blade orange. He was sick of the protocol blue coloring. He shoved the crystals in a pouch on his belt, and exited the room. The door closed behind him as he exited and Ferren made his way back to the council chamber and saw that the Ithorian still stood there with no one else. Good, Kyros hadn’t come out yet. He walked over to the newbie apprentice and tossed the crystal to the alien. “[So do I get anything out of this?]” Ferren asked looking around suspiciously, making it look like he was buying death sticks or something. “[Of coarse],” He said pulling a power crystal out of his pouch, “[this power crystal will add some more energy to your blade, making it harder for an enemy Jedi to block, and it deflects blaster fire better. I stole this from my father, who was once a Jedi].” “[Awesome],” Ferren exclaimed taking the power crystal, “[you know stealing leads to the dark side, right?]” “[It wasn’t really stealing],” The Ithorian said trying to find an excuse, “[My father died, and I took it off his body].” Ferren glared at the Ithorian knowing that his testimony was false, but it didn’t matter how he got the crystal, he now had it. “[Alright],” Ferren said shoving the power crystal into the same pouch as the previous crystals, “[Thank you].” “[No, Jedi],” The Ithorian said suspiciously as though he had something to hide, “[Thank you].” The alien walked off leaving Ferren alone at the council doors. At the moment the Ithorian rounded the corner, the chamber doors opened revealing Kyros being walked out of the room with a Twi’lek Jedi and the human Jedi that earlier asked Ferren to leave the room. “We will start on this mission tomorrow morning, Master Lo-Poks,” Kyros reassured to the human master. “I am glad to hear it,” Master Lo-Poks said. He suddenly reared his head in the direction the Ithorian had left, “Highten Security, Master Juro, we have an intruder.” Ferren thought for a moment, that apprentice Ithorain couldn’t have been the intruder, could he? He couldn’t have been, he had the Jedi robes and everything. Could those Jedi robes been a disguise? It didn’t help Ferren by thinking anything, that probably wans’t true in the first place. Right now he needed to hear from Kyros what the mission was. Ferren was so impatient and he knew it. 3 Ferren fallowed Kyros whining like a little child. “Where are we going?” Ferren asked dragging his feet, “Why won’t you tell me where we are going.” “It is a secret Ferren,” Kyros explained, “I can not tell you for you don’t need to be told.” “But…but…,” Ferren said trying to find the next thing to say, but he came up with nothing. “The only thing that makes you different from when you were seven is you don’t throw tantrums now,” Kyros laughed at the joke he made about Ferren. “I do not throw tantrums!” Ferren yelled at the top of his lungs, proving that what he had just stated was wrong. “Alright, Ferren whatever you say,” Kyros laughed and kept walking. They walked all the way to the speeder garage with Ferren whining all the way there. “Patience is a virtue, Ferren,” Kyros taught, trying to make Ferren stop asking. “I know that Master, That is why I have never been good at fishing,” Ferren said laughing at his comment. Kyros, being the pushover that he is, finally caved in from Ferren’s whining and told him where they were going. “We are going to a cantina here on Coruscant. This test will prove if you are ready to be a Jedi knight or not. We are just going down there to sort out a simple gang war. A lot easier than that run-in with those bounty hunters on Felucia I’d say.” Ferren’s eyes sparkled with dreams of becoming a Jedi knight. He couldn’t wait. “When are we leaving?” Ferren asked anxiously, staring at Kyros hoping that if he stared, the answer would hit him sooner. “We leave tomorrow evening, so go to your dorm and get some rest you have a big day ahead of you tomorrow,” Kyros answered smiling at the fact that he was going to lead his first padawan into the title of Jedi knight. “Alright Master, when and where should I meet you tomorrow?” Ferren asked almost jumping with excitement. “How about six, at the speeder garage. No later,” Kyros informed pushing Ferren on his way. Ferren ran off in the direction of his dorm, but then turned around. “Thanks, Master,” Ferren said smiling, “thanks for everything.” Kyros nodded and turned his back. Kyros walked down the hall then turned right into another hallway. After Ferren watched Master Kyros walk away, he turned around and began walking to his dorm room. He turned a right down a hall, and then took the first left. His room was the first one on the left. He looked at the door and saw that there was a note taped to it. On the front of the folded piece of paper read the name “Ferren” in very nice manuscript handwriting. Ferren opened it to read the letter that was inside. Dear Ummmmfehoo, Just thought I would stop by and say hi, seeing if you wanted to go to dinner with me tomorrow night. My room number is “9832” in the west wing. If you stop by at around seven I would be happy to treat you to a nice dinner. My treat. Hope you can make it. Sincerely, Car-re. Ferren closed the piece of paper, and put it in a pouch on his belt. This had to be the greatest day of his life. Not only did he meet a beautiful girl but he also found out that he was going to be a Jedi knight the next day. Crap I forgot Ferren thought I have that test tomorrow at six. I should stop by Car-re’s room tomorrow and tell her what is going on. Maybe we could reschedule. Ferren walked into his room and the door shut behind him automatically. The lights were out and he reached for the light switch. He turned it on and lifted his head to see a man standing in his room. He was in a big dark room, and had a hood over his head, hiding his face. “What are you doing in here?” Ferren commanded reaching for his lightsaber ready for a fight. “Is that a way to greet your own brother?” the man said pulling the hood down revealing his face. He had a very white face and short black hair. He had a scar going down his right cheek, showing that he had been in a past battle. “Tynan!” Ferren said running over to his brother and rapping his arms around him. Tynan returned the hug and then drawled back sitting down in the chair that was in Ferren’s room. Ferren walked over to his dresser and took off his belt. He set it on the dresser and went and sat down on his bed. “So what brings you to the padawan’s dorm room?” Ferren asked removing his right boot. “Just wanted to see what you were up to tomorrow,” Tynan informed checking his nails for dirt, but they were dirt free. Tynan was always well groomed. “To be truthful, I am going on a test for the Jedi council to see if I am worthy to be Jedi knight material,” Ferren replied his voice almost cracking with excitement removing his remaining boot. “Finally,” Tynan sighed, “It is about time that dreaded council moved you up to my very own Jedi knight level.” Ferren chuckled. “Your Jedi knight level?” Ferren chuckled again, “When did Jedi knight level become yours?” “You know I am kidding brother,” Tynan informed scratching his eye, drawing Ferren’s attention. Ferren looked into Tynan’s eyes for the first time since tonight’s encounter, and noticed something different about his eyes; they had a yellowish tint to them. “Tynan?” Ferren asked, “Are your eyes alright? They look a little, yellow.” “Yeah I am fine just the lighting in your room,” Tynan said trying to cover up what was really wrong with his eyes. Ferren was too excited to argue about anything and decided to leave the subject alone. “To be truthful I have to get going,” Tynan said getting up from the chair. “Wait Tynan,” Ferren said standing up stopping Tynan from leaving, “You just got here, what is the rush?” “Just wanted to stop by and see how my little brother is doing,” Tynan replied rubbing the brown curly hair on Ferren’s head, “we should do something soon. Maybe go rule the galaxy or something.” Ferren laughed and let Tynan pass to leave his room. Ferren led Tynan out, and then locked the door. He walked over to a workbench that was installed in his room for when he first constructed his lightsaber. He set his lightsaber on the table and opened the hilt he took out a kit from the drawer beneath the bench and started to dig his tools into the lightsaber. He removed a wire and put in another one, removed the blue color crystal. He moved a few wires around and put in a few crystal housings into the hilt. There was room for three and no more. It had just enough room for the two color crystals he had and the crystal he got from that young Ithorian student. He walked over to the belt that was on his dresser and removed the three crystals from one of the pouches. He walked back over to the bench and put the crystals in. He pulled out some wire, cut some off, and wired a few things inside the saber. He put the housing back on the other half of the saber. He then prayed to the force that the saber even turned on. He hit the button and a bright orange blade ignited from the hilt. Ferren’s eyes reflected the orange glowing from his saber. Ferren smiled and pressed the button again returning the blade back into the hilt. He set the lightsaber on his nightstand and walked over to the light switch. He hit it making the room dark. Ferren dropped his pants, and removed his shirt, leaving him in just his underpants. He walked to his bed, and got beneath the covers. He quickly fell asleep. 4 Ferren awoke from light shining through his window and hitting his face. He got up and sat up in his bed. Light from the window filled his room with the freshness of the morning. Ferren got up and walked into the bathroom. He urinated and removed his underwear. He turned on the shower and got into it. He liked his showers hot, and steam started to rise from the hot water, fogging up the glass casing that surround the shower and the mirror. After cleaning himself he got out of the shower and wrapped a towel around his waist. He walked over to the mirror and raked his had across it, leaving a streak where his hand had been. He grabbed another towel form the towel rack and dried his hair, which after the drying, it looked the same from the day before. He walked out into his room with the towel still wrapped around his waist. He walked to the dresser and pulled out a clean pair of underpants. He put them on, letting the towel drop to the floor. He opened another drawer and pulled out a clean Jedi robe. He quickly put it on and walked back into the bathroom. He brushed his teeth and walked back out into his room, where Tynan was waiting. “Tynan?” Ferren questioned a quizzical look on his face, “How did you get in? I had the door locked.” “That doesn’t matter,” Tynan said an urgent sound in his voice, “I have something to tell you.” Ferren stared at Tynan wondering what was going on. “Ferren,” Tynan started, “The Jedi council has lied to you.” “What are you talking about, Tynan?” Ferren asked still having no idea what was going on. “I have found out something that the Jedi could have never though I could have learned,” a diabolic grin appeared on Tynan’s face as he continued, “I have found power that could make life perfect, for both of us.” “Tynan, you aren’t making sense,” Ferren said backing up, thinking the worst. “Ferren,” Tynan glared into Ferren’s eyes, piercing Ferren’s soul with his bright yellow eyes, “I have learned the ways of the dark side.” A startled look appeared on Ferren’s face as he looked at his end table, which was nothing more than a foot away. He grabbed the lightsaber that was housed on it and ignited it. Tynan ignited his lightsaber revealing a bright scarlet blade. “Don’t do this, Ferren,” Tynan said holding a hand out to Ferren, “Join me and we can rule this galaxy as brothers.” Ferren was scared; he had just woken up and was not ready for a fight, not against his own brother nonetheless. Ferren shook his head in fear saying no to Tynan’s offer. “Than you shall die,” Tynan said jumping at Ferren his lightsaber slicing at him. Ferren returned the slash with a block clashing the lightsabers together, sending sparks every which way. They went back and forth, Tynan attacking and then Ferren blocking. Ferren noticed that Tynan’s blows were powerful, with Tynan attacking Ferren with this anger and power, Ferren could not win. Suddenly Tynan hit Ferren in the hand that held his lightsaber, severing Ferren’s thumb from his hand. Ferren dropped his saber and clenched his hand in pain. “Tynan, no,” Ferren said watching Tynan lunged his saber into Ferren’s chest. Ferren felt his breath go short and he noticed that his vision was getting blurry and dark. Tynan got a demonic smile on his face as he laughed maniacally. Tynan turned his back on his brother who had fallen to his knees. Ferren stared at Tynan as he walked out of Ferren’s room. Ferren fell to the ground face first. As soon as he hit the ground, he sat up in his bed. Good it was just a dream Ferren thought to himself. He was sweating pretty badly, and he was really hot. It was still dark in his room. He looked at the clock, which was on his end table, and it read “6:30 pm”. It was half an hour before his alarm was going to go off, and after a dream like that Ferren couldn’t go back to sleep, so he decided to get up and start his day. He got into the shower and brushed his teeth; he put on clean cloths and put on his boots. He grabbed his lightsaber and put on his belt, quickly leaving his room. 5 Ferren stood in front of a room as he knocked. He lifted his head to make sure the room was the right one. Yep, Room 9832. He stood there waiting for someone to answer the door. The door opened revealing the same girl Ferren had ran into the previous day. “Hey Car-re,” Ferren said nervous about what to say without making himself look stupid. “Hey Ferren,” Car-re greeted, “are we still on for dinner?” Car-re’s eyes glittered hoping for a yes. “I have some bad news,” Ferren broke the news; Car-re’s eyes lost their twinkle of hope. “Oh,” Car-re said almost tearing up, “If you don’t want to, I understand.” “No, no,” Ferren corrected, “That is not it I would love to have dinner with you. It is just that I have to go on this test for the council and if I pass this test I am going to be a Jedi knight, meaning that this is kind of important. Maybe we could reschedule?” Ferren said throwing a proposal out there, hoping for a nice response back. “Sure,” Car-re returned, the hope back in her eyes, “How about, tomorrow, same time?” Ferren thought for a moment thinking if he had anything to do during that time. “Sure,” Ferren agreed nodding his head. Ferren leaned in and kissed Car-re on the cheek. After his withdrawal from her lips, he realized what he did. He looked into Car-re’s eyes and saw surprise. “I gotta go,” Ferren said quickly not knowing what had just happened. He didn’t know if what he had done was a good thing, or a bad thing. Hopefully she liked it Ferren thought to himself. Ferren walked down the hallway to the cafeteria. He got some food out of the line that some other students were in. He checked his watch as he sat down. It was 10:26 and he still had several more hours until he had to go do his test. He ate his food, which was disgusting just like any other cafeteria’s food, and walked back to his room. He entered his room and immediately ignited his lightsaber. The orange blade filled the dimly lit room with an orange glow. Ferren smiled, and started twirling the lightsaber around. He was getting faster in twirling it around him, streaks of the orange energy swirled around him where the blade was once was. He returned the lightsaber to the hilt and put the lightsaber on his belt. He walked into his bathroom and urinated. He zipped his pants and washed his hands. As he was about to leave his bathroom, he felt some evil energy in his room. He was scared to open the bathroom door and see what evil awaited him on the other side. He had to be strong and see what was beyond the door, as for fear led to the dark side. He built up his courage and opened the door immediately lighting the lightsaber ready for what was coming his way. He looked around the room and in the darkness saw his own brother Tynan. His horrible dream was coming back to him. Tynan stared at him with glowing yellow eyes, staring into Ferren’s soul and filling him with fear. Ferren started to sweat. “Tynan,” Ferren gulped, sweat beading down his face and palms. He already felt the lightsaber he held, slipping from his hand. Tynan said nothing just stared at Ferren. “Tynan, what are you doing here?” Ferren asked more fear engulfing his body. Tynan still stood speechless glaring at Ferren. Ferren watched Tynan as he ignited his lightsaber. Without warning, Tynan force jumped at Ferren flailing his lightsaber. Ferren winced at the death that was going to take him away. He closed his eyes and waited for the slice that was going to end his life. Ferren opened his eyes after about a second, without Tynan striking him down. Ferren looked at an empty room. Ferren looked every direction hoping that Tynan was not behind him, and Ferren’s wish came true, Tynan was no where. Was I imagining all of that? Was Tynan even here, or did I just imagining he was here? It seemed so real. What is happening to me? Ferren asked himself sweat still dripping from his face. His heart pounded as he looked and saw that his lightsaber was still ignited. He turned it off and walked to the front door. As he as about to open the door, a knock came to the steel door that he stood behind. He opened the door and saw Tynan standing there staring at him. “It is time,” Tynan said. “No it isn’t time!” Ferren yelled quickly turned on his lightsaber and lunged at Tynan. Tynan ignited a lightsaber, which was green, and blocked Ferren’s killing blow. “Ferren what is going on?” Tynan asked somewhat concerned. Ferren looked at Tynan who slowly faded away and Kyros stood where Tynan had once stood. “Ferren,” Kyros said staring at Ferren still in the same position that he was in as he blocked Ferren’s lunge, “Is everything alright?” Ferren backed off from his attack and turned off his lightsaber. “Sorry master,” I have been feeling really awkward this morning. “Are you well enough for the test?” Kyros asked also turning off his lightsaber. “I should be by the time we leave,” Ferren said wiping more sweat from his brow. “Ferren,” Kyros began, “It is six thirty, and you were not at the speeder garage so I decided to come see if you are alright.” Ferren looked at his watch and it read “6:34”. Kyros was right. It feels like I ate breakfast just a few minutes ago. Where did that time go? Ferren thought still staring at his watch. “Are you sure you are well enough to accomplish this task?” Kyros asked once again, just making sure he was ok. “Yeah,” Ferren said looking at Kyros. Kyros nodded and told Ferren to fallow him. They walked to the speeder garage, and got into a speeder. They flew out of the garage and into the gigantic city that was Coruscant. They flew for a little bit without saying a word to one another. Ferren stared out of the window as Kyros flew the speeder. Ferren said nothing, he barely even moved. Kyros looked at Ferren, and back at the direction they were flying. “Ferren,” Kyros started after the several minutes of silence, “What is wrong?” Ferren thought for a moment before answering making sure that what he was going to say didn’t sound crazy. “Where is my brother?” Ferren asked before he explained anything to Kyros. “I believe that he went on a task for the council early this morning. He has not returned,” Kyros answered still worried about Ferren, but deciding that it would be best not to ask more questions. “I noticed that your lightsaber was orange,” Kyros said pushing a smile on his face, “You know that you can’t change the color of your lightsaber until after you have become a Jedi knight.” Ferren said nothing but still stared out at the city, thinking about what had happened through out the day, and ignoring Kyros. “I am glad that you have become an expert at constructing a lightsaber, but that does not mean that you can go against the council’s rules. You are lucky no other people were around when you attacked me, or you would have been kicked out of the council,” Kyros explained, “Not for attacking me, but for changing your lightsaber color.” Kyros thought for a moment before continuing. “Why did you attack me?” “I thought you were my brother,” Ferren explained. “Your brother?” Kyros questioned, “Why would you attack your brother?” “Your guess is as good as mine,” Ferren said turning to look at Kyros. “Ferren,” Kyros said trying to find the right words, “I don’t know what to say to you right now. You have to explain to me what has happened out of the ordinary within the last two days.” Ferren looked at Kyros with a confused look on his face. “I helped an apprentice get a color crystal for his lightsaber, I ran into that girl and I talked to my brother last night. That all happened yesterday. Today I went back to that girl’s dorm so we could talk, and I ate breakfast. I went back to my dorm and used the bathroom and then you came to my door.” Ferren thought it was for the best that he didn’t tell Kyros about the dinner date and the lost time he misplaced between relieving himself and attacking Kyros at the door. Kyros had many questions and Ferren knew it. “When did you help that apprentice?” Kyros asked. “I helped him while you were talking to the council; he said that he needed help getting a color crystal because he didn’t know where the crystal stock room was. That is where I got the two crystals to make my lightsaber orange. He than gave me a power crystal for payment in helping him and walked away.” Ferren paused a moment before saying, “right before you came out of the council room, come to think of it.” “Which direction did he leave?” Kyros asked urgently and quickly hoping for an answer that instant. “To the south I think,” Ferren answered remembering the walking path of the young padawan. “What species was this “student”,” Master Kyros asked hoping for yet another instant answer. “Ithorian,” Ferren answered nervously, hoping that he was not in trouble for helping the student. “The power crystal,” Kyros started, “Is it in your lightsaber right now?” Kyros looked at Ferren. “No,” Ferren lied, for the fear that he was going to get in trouble. Maybe that Ithorian stole the power crystal and if I somehow came up with it, I may get in trouble Ferren thought to himself, hoping that Kyros couldn’t sense the fear he had of getting in trouble. “Good,” Kyros said relieved somehow, “What did you do between breakfast and me going to your room?” Kyros raised an eyebrow confused about where the lost time ran off to. “I really don’t know,” Ferren answered, not lying but really not knowing. I am not sure that Tynan being in my room even happened. So how should I know what happened? Ferren asked himself. He reached his hand down and touched his lightsaber, at the exact moment his fingers brushed across the hilt of the saber a vision appeared into Ferren’s mind. Ferren saw Kyros’ face. His lips synced the words “run” and he was shot with blaster fire from all directions. He then saw Tynan’s face. Tynan chuckled a maniacal chuckle and turned and walking into the shadows. Ferren withdrew his hand from his saber and breathed heavily. He looked at Kyros and then at his saber. “Where are we going, Master?” Ferren asked still looking at his lightsaber. “We are going to the Gurnlit Cantina, to sort out a gang war. I thought I already told you that,” Kyros informed. “You did,” Ferren said glad that they were not going to some dark alleyway, “Just needed some reassurance.” Kyros looked over at Ferren, who he knew was troubled at this moment, and sighed. Hopefully Ferren was well enough to pass this test. 6 The rest of the ride to the “Gurnlit Cantina” was complete silence except for the traffic that was going on around Kyros and Ferren. When they arrived at the cantina, they both exited the speeder and walked into the cantina. The cantina was packed full of many different alien races and they were all congregating at places inside the bar. Ferren fallowed Kyros as he walked up to the bar. Kyros spoke to the Twi’lek bar tender in a language that Ferren could not understand. Ferren quickly got bored and walked towards the restroom in back to vomit. He felt it coming up, and knew what it was from. He was not only nervous about this test in becoming a Jedi knight but he felt a knot in his stomach from all the stuff that had happened that day. As he was walking to the bathroom, with his head down, an Ithorian stopped him. “[Hello, Jedi],” The Ithorian said in Huttsise, “Do you remember me?” Ferren looked up from the ground and looked at the Ithorian, it was the one from the Academy. “Yes,” Ferren quickly answered in galactic basic and then tried to move passed him to get to the restrooms. The Ithorian stopped him yet again. “[How is that crystal working out for you, Jedi]?” The Ithorian asked seeming like he was stopping him from going to the bathroom on purpose. “Fine,” Ferren said getting angry and trying to move passed the Ithorian to the restrooms as he felt the burning from his stomach acid in his mouth. “[That is good to hear, Jedi…,” The Ithorian was cut off by Ferren igniting his lightsaber and attacking the Ithorian. Ferren sliced through his arm at the Ithorians shoulder, and then continuing the slash as the saber ran through the Ithorian’s leg. The alien screamed out in pain as he fell to the ground. Ferren turned off his lightsaber and walked over the Ithorian and his cut off limbs, as the alien still screamed, and walked into the restroom. He walked over to the toilet and threw up. Ferren held his head over the toilet for a few minutes before throwing up again. After vomiting, he sat on the dirty grimy bathroom floor still feeling a little queasy. Out of the cantina on the other side of the door, came yells, screams and blaster fire. Ferren knew that the gang war was out there. I have to pass my test Ferren thought to himself. He pulled himself off of the floor and walked out into the cantina. There he saw about twenty humans all wearing black Jedi robes standing at the front door. Are these Jedi coming to help with this gang war? Ferren thought looking at all of them stand motionless with blank faces. Simultaneously, all twenty Jedi ignited their lightsabers. At that moment it hit Ferren who they actually were. The scarlet bladed lightsabers gave it away. They were dark Jedi. They were wiped out years ago, what are they ding here? Ferren thought thinking of running. “I am looking for two Jedi,” The Jedi in the middle shouted striking fear in the hearts of everyone in the cantina, “Anyone see them?” The entire cantina pointed in Ferren’s direction. Ferren looked at the bar goers and then at the Jedi who smirked at Ferren and walked toward him. Ferren reached for hits lightsaber, and looked around. To his left was the back door of the cantina. I can make it. Ferren had determination in his eyes as he bolted for the back door without warning. He could hear the patter of footsteps behind him as he ran, knowing the dark Jedi were on his tail. Ferren approached the door, getting closer and closer with every stride. At last Ferren hit the door with his body forcing it open. He fell into a dark alley way, and got up within moments after falling. He turned around and found himself face to face with Tynan. 7 Ferren blinked for a moment to make sure that this was not just another hallucination of his. He opened his eyes to still see Tynan within one foot of his face. Ferren still clutched the lightsaber in his hands, as he thought about running. He darted to the left and was met by Tynan’s face again. Ferren then sidestepped right where he was once again met by Tynan. “Nice of you to join us,” Tynan said stepping aside, showing Kyros behind him. Kyros looked at Ferren with his lightsaber ignited attacking and blocking blows from the air, “Affect Mind,” Tynan started, “It is so much fun seeing people imagine that they are fighting their worst fears. Right now your master is dueling Darth Vader. I find it humorous don’t you?” Tynan asked chuckling a little. “Let him go,” Ferren commanded with hatred in his eyes. “Alright little brother,” Tynan agreed pointing an open palmed hand at Kyros. Kyros suddenly stood in defense position not knowing what had just happened. “What is going on here, Tynan?” Ferren demanded. After about five seconds of no answer Ferren screamed, “Answer me!” “No need to get offensive,” Tynan explained, “I have found power where the light side could never lead me to. I have grasped the force and made it my servant. Come with me Ferren,” Tynan said looking at his hand as though he was looking at some unknown force, “Join me and we shall rule the galaxy. We could overthrow my Master and control this galaxy. Take my hand Ferren,” Tynan held out his hand, “Take my hand and we shall crush the republic.” During this speech the dark Jedi that were fallowing Ferren were also in the alleyway, listening to Tynan’s speech. “No,” Ferren said, something inside of him wanting to grab Tynan’s hand and get the power he spoke of. “No,” Tynan repeated confused, as though he was not expecting that answer, “Well then. You must die.” Tynan ignited his lightsaber and swung at Ferren. Ferren quickly ignited his saber and blocked the slash that came from his brother. “Take the master,” Tynan ordered as the twenty dark Jedi ran to Kyros. Kyros saw this attack and blocked the first swing from the Jedi. “Why are you doing this?” Ferren asked almost tearing up from seeing this oath his brother had chosen. “Compare me to a tree Ferren,” Tynan began swinging again at Ferren. Ferren blocked again, “A tree needs water to grow and to be strong. Well the dark side is my water. Don’t you want to be strong, like me?” Tynan asked lunging at Ferren, who blocked his attack. “No,” Ferren said with anger, “I want you dead.” Ferren grasped his saber in both hands and attacked Tynan. This caught Tynan off guard, who after the first few attacks lost balance and fell to his back. Ferren swung down at Tynan for the blow that would end the fight, but Tynan held an open palm out to Ferren. Ferren flew back from the force push and hit the brick wall that was the cantina. Tynan stood up walking toward Ferren who was still on the ground. “Brother,” Tynan said holding out a hand, “You have never been good with force powers. If you defect to the dark side, you will be more powerful than your master.” Tynan pointed and Ferren fallowed his finger to look at Kyros fighting desperately against the dark Jedi. All twenty of them attacked with great force, and Kyros was holding his own,
