He could have sustained more injury in the fall. He would lose lots of blood, lots. He cannot crawl well, and no one would be near to help. He is far away from medical facilities. All reasons that point to imminent, if not already, death.

This is one bit of EU that I personally don't believe. The fall alone, the depth of the pit itself, doesn't make any sense he could've survived. On top of that, even if he got out, he can't honestly just waltz into the theed hangar, steal an N-1 starfighter, and leave the place. No, I think he died then and there, no way he could survive. Besides, Sidious doesn't want him anymore, he wanted Luke, in order to replace Vader.

He survived because he fell of a tall ledge.
It's a law of physics: fictional characters CAN NOT die at the same time they fall off a tall ledge. Tall ledges also have healing powers that fix all wounds. Anyone who falls off a tall ledge (especially into water, though Maul did not and it is not necessary) is destined to come back later on fully healed and suprise everyone. |
